What is an abrash?
If we want to know what abrash means, we just have to remember that sometimes we see stripes of a different shade, lighter or darker, within the same area of the carpet, this may seem a defect or defect but nothing could be further from the truth.
The difficulty of obtaining the same shades of colour on each skein and above all of obtaining dyes that have, over time, the same resistance to light or water, means that in some oriental carpets the abrash often appear, that is, different shades of the same colour, which constitute, among other things, an effective documentation of the artisanal nature of the carpets in which they appear. It is worth noting that, although in the West abrash have long been considered defects, in reality they are quite the opposite and are often used, on purpose, in order to certify the authenticity of a carpet, to the point that even mechanical carpets imitate this effect.
