For proper maintenance of your carpets at home, you can check out these practical tips:
First of all, it should be noted that an oriental rug is, by nature, extremely resistant to wear and tear and that, in general, the higher the quality, the better it ages. That is why, although you have to take proper care of carpets, it is not necessary to be constantly aware of them worrying about any small stains. We have to accept that they are elements that are on the ground and under our feet and that, therefore, sooner or later they will be stained. There is no need to worry about this as all carpets can be washed and restored.
Now, there are some simple tips that we can follow to prolong the life of the carpet and keep it as clean as possible:
First of all, the most practical thing is the vacuum cleaner
An oriental rug should be vacuumed at least once a week in the favorable direction of the pile. The vacuum cleaner is no problem for the carpet, you just have to be careful when vacuuming the fringes. This operation must be carried out delicately so as not to damage them
Professional carpet cleaning and washing
There is a popular belief that it is necessary to wash carpets every year, however for domestic use, a wash every 5 or 10 years is enough but always in a specialized center and not in any dry cleaner. It must be taken into account that during the washing process, the carpet “suffers” and that an excess in the frequency of washing can damage our carpet.
Depending on the type of carpet, the washing will be done dry or with water.
In water washing, in a first step, the carpet is shaken to free it from sand, small stones, etc. It is then washed with water and special non-fat-soluble detergent. Finally, the remaining liquid is squeezed out of the carpet and hung in a large, dry place. This type of cleaning gives the pile elasticity and shine, so the colors will appear brighter and lighter.
Removing stains from oriental rugs
Authentic oriental rugs have a substance called lanolin, which is one of the components present in high-quality sheep’s wool. This substance prevents contaminants from leaving residues on the surface of the carpet.
If unfortunately by accident something spills on your carpet, you should try to remove the stains as quickly as possible, because if you wait too long, you run the risk of stains fixing on the wool and making it very difficult to remove.
Things to keep in mind:
1. Try to remove stains immediately, before they dry.
2. In case liquid has been poured, the first step is to remove as much liquid as possible by means of a tablespoon by pressing on the carpet in the direction of the hair so that the liquid enters the spoon. This operation must be repeated until no more liquid comes out.
3. Then moisten a clean and white cloth with which to rub the stain to remove it as much as possible.
4. If necessary, dilute the stain with warm water.
5. If necessary, you can use a little detergent.
6. Dry the affected area with a hair dryer, a fan or simply leaving the carpet in the sun.
