What is hand-tufting?
Hand tufting is a technique to weave carpets much faster since there is no knot, the carpet is not knotted, but the wool is “shot” on a tile base by an industrial device, in other words, wool is inserted on a base without there being a knot. This technique can be performed either by hand or without human intervention, in a fully automated way. The result is a knotless rug with a flimsier structure and therefore more exposed to degradation over time. They should also be much lower priced pieces, although this does not always happen, since in many cases they are “design” rugs and therefore we are paying a high price for an original design, although with a very poor quality.
In the following two videos you can clearly see how this technique is, In the first we see the preparation of the frame and the base of the background and in the second the technique itself.
