Narrow a kilim and add the excess piece at one end to make the piece longer
This time we have a kilim whose owner wants to reconvert it to make it narrower and longer. To do this, we are going to cut a piece, adjusting the measurement, on the side (and so it will be narrower) and we will add this piece at one of the ends of the piece to make it longer.
In these first 6 photos we first see the kilim in its original state and proceed to measure the width we need and cut the excess piece.
In the following 3 photos you can see how we move the cut piece and place it at one end and proceed to cut the excess piece to adjust it to the size of the piece.
In the following 6 photos you can see first how we remove the festoon where it is no longer needed, then we proceed to the selection of yarns to make the new festoon on the side of the kilim that lost theirs at the time of narrowing: It consists of first placing a thread along the entire length of the piece and on it weaving the new festoon.
In the following 3 photos you can see how we sew at the end of the kilim the piece that we had previously cut from the length.
Finally, we proceed to adjust the length of the piece to the length requested by the owner. Cut the excess and repeat the operation of sewing the festoon.
Here we can see the final result of this laborious and meticulous restoration work: The kilim already finished and adjusted to the precise measurements that the client has requested already placed in its place.
Any rug or kilim can be adjusted in its measurements, do not hesitate to contact us in case you want to touch up any piece.
